11) Are any of the Rare-Coat rumors true? Are Rare-Colored Labradors created from inbreeding with a weimaraner or other breed? Can Rare-Colored Labs be registered under AKC?

Silver Labradors & all other rare coats are 100% pure labrador retrievers. They are not "man-made," nor have they been 'altered' by man, or unnaturally. Silver labs are 100% Labrador Retriever. In Berkeley, CA, UCLA DNA mapping study/test proved 100% that rare-colored coats are natural in the late '90s. Silver Lab DNA, for instance, contains a gray chromosome.

Yes you can register under AKC, as all our dogs are. Silver, Red & White Labradors are extremely rare, & natural in the gene pool. On AKC papers, you register Reds & Whites under the Yellow "shade," Silver under the Chocolate "shade," & Charcoal under the Black "shade." This was due to AKC in 1987 because of breeders who feared they couldn't get the rare colors in their breed. (These are the same breeders who spread rumors that these rare colors are 'unethical' and 'genetically altered,' etc. They do this because they fear these rare colors will flood the market and in doing so direct business away from their breeding business. A competitive issue; hardly ethical. AKC used to have a "Other Color" to specify red, silver or white. Pressured by jealous breeders who wanted the rare color options off of the papers, AKC now simply lists three main "shades" of colors for labs on their papers.

These rare colors are their own colors. Be warned of phony and deceivingly jealous web-sites out there that claim otherwise. There is even a kennel out there willing to pay $100,000 to anyone who can prove they are unnatural and unacceptable breeds.

Chocolate labs not too long ago were also considered a "hybrid," a false color so to speak--many breeders used to drown their dogs born chocolate--as they do now of the few silvers that are born, in fear the color is a "flaw" in the breed and that it will give their kennel a bad reputation.

12) Do Rare-Colored Coat Labs have the same temperament as other labs?

Yes, the temperament is exact. Only genetic difference is the chromosome in charge of coat color. Currently, the rare colors cost more due to supply & demand, as their rarity is sought by many.

13) Why do some breeders protest that rare-colored Labs does not exist & their breeders are corrupt?

Many of those breeders that believe these rare colors are nonsense go back a ways. Yellow & Black Lab breeders saw their business and variety threatened when the Chocolate Lab became more abundant.

Breeders didn't want to invest in the rare & expensive chocolates & protested to AKC for many, many years! These breeders claim they don't like breeding the color due to "ethics".

Based on those 'ethics,' many of these anti-color breeders openly admit killing silver, red and white pups to protect their "breed standards." Genetics have proven that these rare colored dogs have IDENTICAL genetic composition as the yellow, black & chocolates. Some breeders say these colors don't even exist! We assure you they do--come see them for yourself! They've been around for centuries, silvers dated as early as the 17th century, long before genetic altering was possible.

Rare-color labs sell for much more than the standard colors, and the demand is on breeders who offer these colors. BCK does not claim they are "better" than the other colors. They are simply more rare, & that results in their higher cost. We offer common colors as well at times.
We love all labs, and that's our ethics.

Any other questions please contact. That's what we're here for! Thank you!
